RR 2*3^2: Why my VAIO sucks
Some reasons why my recently bought Sony VAIO (December 2007) is really crappy.
1. It uses a wireless device for which there is no free driver. Which is related to the next point. (I will stop using that wireless driver. Please remind me if I start using it by accident.)
2. The power cable is relatively short, at about 2.6m. From above point, and being a free software proponent, I decided to stop using that crap. So I connect my computer to the router using a cable. 21st century innovation! BUT, if I do so, I can't simultaneously connect my Vaio to a power outlet and the router at the same time in a safe manner, because THE POWER CABLE IS TOO DARN SHORT!
3. Compiz unsupported. Crap.
4. Lower battery life than stated in "advertising material". 3.5 hours vs 2 hours. Which means I can't just leave it in standby mode in class. (see also point 2.)
5. Ugly depressed orbs with what looks like 4 distorted glass panels (aka Losekey)
6. Pressing AV mode asks me to reinstall something on Windows, which I conveniently removed long ago. (Windows, and by extension the thing also.)
7. Hard to remove Vista sticker on the underside.
8. Came preinfected with a virus: Windows Vista
9. Lack of distinct Page Up/Down keys. (But this was also a problem with my previous laptop.) Which is compounded by the fact that those keys were quite far from the Fn key, a problem my previous laptop didn't have. I can barely hit Pg Up/Dn using one hand. Which means the tab transfer keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+Pg Up/Dn) can't be done using one hand.
10. Default time was off by about 10 minutes. (Default time meaning time a few days after laptop was bought, and before syncing time)
11. That's ridiculous. It's not even funny.
Battery critically low now, must start charging and go offline. (See point 2)
